It has come to my attention over the past few weeks that I have really drawn some sensitive people into my life. Not surprising really, since I’m very sensitive myself and used to struggle A LOT with picking up other people’s energies. This is something that I think a lot of introvert’s struggle with daily, but don’t recognize it for what it is. In fact, I never knew that I was picking up on other people’s energy. This incoming energy registered as anxiety and panic for me. Once I realized what was happening my anxiety levels dropped dramatically. Not only did I struggle with anxiety, but very frequent and very bad headaches, including migraines 2-4 times per month.

Today I’ll be covering practical physical tools that you can use/carry with you to assist you in dealing with other people’s energies. Next week I’ll discuss cleansing and share a guided meditation where I guide you in pulling in your aura.
Anxiety or Foreign Energy?
As I mentioned above I used to really struggle with anxiety. Sometimes I still do, but it’s much more manageable and is more in line with what most people experience. For example, I might still feel anxious about moving, starting a new job or school, etc., but it is no longer debilitating. I still do get stress related headaches, but I am more able to deal with them using self care methods instead of just taking an aspirin or ibuprofen.
Do you ever feel anxious when you are out in public, specifically around large groups or people, or even small groups of people in a small space? Do you ever feel angry or sad out of no where? Have you ever walked past a happy/smiling/laughing person(s) and felt immediately happy? If so, you could be picking up on other peoples energy.
For me, foreign energy = anxiety and I think this is the case for many highly sensitive people & empaths. This is just my theory, but I believe our brains and energetic fields get so overwhelmed by outside stimuli that we cannot process it all. This manifests as anxiety and panic within the body. Maybe it’s upset stomach when faced with crowds, headaches or migraines when around too many people, or a general feeling of dis-ease that is so overwhelming we don’t even want to leave the house. I also believe that many people that experience social anxiety are actually just incredibly overwhelmed by the energy of others and don’t know how to process it or protect themselves.
Did you know that the human energy field, sometimes called the aura, is actually measurable by scientific methods? This isn’t just some new age hippie babble anymore. We are energetic beings. Our heart produces it’s own type of electric pulse. In fact, everything is energy, we’ve just learned to manipulate it into matter in some cases. Once we figure out how to do so, we can sense the energy fields all around us. Usually that is more difficult using it in a broad sense, but much easier when we narrow down our area of focus. Plants, for example, also have their own energy field and they are very easy to sense (with practice!) and plant energies are usually very soothing. If you’re just starting to practice sensing the energy around you, plants are a great place to start as they have a very soothing vibe and won’t talk to you – at least not in the typical sense 😉
So, how do we protect ourselves? The best way is to learn to use your aura for protection, but this takes a lot of practice. While we each work on using our aura effectively we can bolster it with things like stones, knowledge from books, and cleansing our energetic field with smudge, water, or sound.
Each crystal has it’s own energy, just like people do. However, there are some that are great for grounding your energy and repelling negativity. My favorite stone when I was first learning about energy was black tourmaline. I really like the raw, unpolished stones that are small enough to carry in a pocket. Black tourmaline absorbs the negative energy around it so it doesn’t get to you. Other stones that I really like for grounding and protection…

Of course, there are MANY more stones that you may find work for you. The top stones I listed for grounding and protection are known across the world for their abilities. The stones for support and balance are more subjective. Yes, you may find that many people feel that way about those stones, but you may find that they don’t vibe with you personally. That is ok. You’ll just have to find ones that work for you. If you can, I highly recommend going to a shop where you can actually see, touch, and feel energetically the stone you choose before buying it. If that’s not possible, I highly recommend this incredible lady’s Etsy shop. She cleanses and charges all of her crystals before sending them out and let me tell you, she does an amazing job. Quick Note: You must cleanse your crystals. This is key to their working properly and vibing with you. It is very possible that you may not vibe with one particular stone out of a bunch of same stones because it is contaminated energetically. We cleanse stones the same way we cleanse ourselves of energetic pollution. I’ll discuss this more next week, but you can Google in the mean time if you can’t wait 😉

- Who’s Stuff is This? by Yvonne Perry – This is the first book I read on the subject and it is very easy to read & digest.
- Frequency: The Power of Personal Vibration by Penney Pierce – I read this one much later on in my journey and while I found it helpful, it was a bit redundant for me as I had already been using some of the techniques for over a year. Great if you are just starting out as she has practical exercises as well.
- Energetic Boundaries: How to Stay Protected in Life & Work by Cyndi Dale – I haven’t actually read this book yet, but it rates highly on Amazon and is on my list since I will soon be massaging the general public.
